Earth Day

Celebrate Earth Day and get involved this April

Earth Day

Earth Day 2024 is a global celebration dedicated to environmental awareness and action. Founded in 1970, Earth Day serves as a reminder of the importance of conservation and sustainability.

This year’s theme focuses on the health and environmental impacts of plastics, urging us to reduce and phase out single-use plastics.

Our Environmental Sustainability team at the University, based in the Directorate of Estates and Facilities, is dedicated to leading our progress towards a healthier, more sustainable world. Whether this be engaging staff, students, and the wider University in our long-term commitment to a zero-carbon future by 2038, or embedding everyday sustainability on campus, the projects they deliver help make us more environmentally conscious.

Get involved this April with Sustainability Action Month

As part of our bicentenary programme, our biggest sustainability event of the year – Sustainability Action Month – is currently taking place. It is four weeks of interactive activities to inform you about the climate crisis and provide tips for sustainability on campus and at home. Each week has a different focus, as demonstrated in our calendar, and you’re encouraged to get involved where you can.
