Sport activities

Welcome to UoM Sport's Staff Sport page! Here you'll find all the information regarding the Staff Sport programme and upcoming events that you can take part in. All sessions will provide the necessary equipment and will have a qualified instructor/coach on hand. Hopefully you will build some friendships across departments and maybe some friendly rivalries too!

Active Manchester

As part of the sport departments commitment to staff wellbeing, we run a timetable of fitness classes throughout the year to promote physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. We run sessions such as Pilates, Yoga, Zumba and Hula Hoop to name just a few activities you could get involved with. Typically classes run during your lunch hour or after work to fit around you. Full a for list of classes, and a link to book, please visit the Active Manchester webpage

Sporticipate

You may or may not have heard about it, but Sporticipate is not just for students, it's fully open to staff too. The Sporticipate programme runs weekly 'drop-in' sessions with no commitement required, 'learn-to' programmes where you sign up to a structured introduction to a sport or activity, and 'one-off' events throughout the year. These all come at little to no cost and all equipment is provided. Many sessions run during lunch times or after work at facilities on, or close to, campus.

Sporticipate is aimed at beginners but absolutely anybody is welcome. To look at what's currently on offer, and to sign up (it's free) to take part, please visit the Sporticipate webpage.

Squash Ladder

UoM Sport have launched a Squash Ladder aimed at increasing staff participation in physical activity by matching people with similar interests and at similar levels. To support this, UoM Sport provide a free 2 hour session each week for you to come down and play your matches.

Sports ladders are a simple ranking system that allows players to play other people to move up and down the league table, or 'ladder'. Whilst the ladders will always have a competitive element, our main objective is simply to get more staff playing sport and so we will be giving out prizes to those who play the most games regardless of your ladder position!

There are no expectations of number of games, but we advise players to try to arrange a match around once a week. Rackets will also be supplied to use at these sessions if required, although you are able to arrange your game directly with an opponent at any point you like.

The free session is on Tuesdays 12.20 – 2.20pm Sugden Centre Squash Courts - to register your interest, please email james.marenghi@manchester.ac.uk

Campus Sport Leagues
