Victoria Park Housekeeping team gives Tameside Animal Shelter a facelift
The Housekeeping team from Victoria Park headed off to Tameside Animal Shelter, in Hyde, their task: to give the front entrance a makeover and repaint the walls.
Doreen Warrender, Magella Shanahan and Mark Kennedy, and their friend Ryan Kelly, took to it with gusto, using paint, brushes and rollers kindly donated by M60 Cleaning Supplies.
Mark said: “It was a lovely sunny day so we cracked on with the job in hand. We were all organised and had our own specific jobs to do.
“We all felt it went really well. When we had finished the painting, to stand back and look at the shelter afterwards was so rewarding – it looked heaps better.
And the team had a laugh too.
Doreen said: “Afterwards we looked like the Incredible Hulk - we all had green hands from the paint.”
Magella agreed: “We would highly recommend this sort of project again as it is so rewarding to give your time to the community. You also get to spend time with work colleagues outside of a work environment and you see them in a different light which is a good thing.”
Jacqui Clarke, who founded the not-for-profit charity in 2001, thanked the team, commenting that they had done a wonderful job and thanking the University for allowing them to come down and paint the shelter – just in time for their fayre on bank holiday weekend .
She said the shelter was so in need of a facelift and the team had done that and more as they also painted the little dog shelter at the front of the building.
The team concluded: “It was nice to meet the staff at the shelter – they do such a wonderful and rewarding job as they are mostly volunteers giving up their own free time to help with the animals.
“All said and done we had a wonderful rewarding day at Tameside Animal Shelter – wonderful place, wonderful people!”
