Your new IT login - Getting started

21 Nov 2017

2-factor authentication for staff and postgraduate research students is here

Cyber Security

As you will know, all staff and postgraduate research students need to sign up for 2-factor authentication, which changes the way we login to our IT accounts.

This starts today, when email software applications such as Outlook will be protected by 2-factor authentication. This means you will not be able to send or receive new email unless you are fully logged in using the new GlobalProtect Virtual Private Network.

So, if you're not yet fully set up, and you still need a bit more help with this new process, we have various step-by-step guides, videos and troubleshooting information to help you get working.

Get started

Before you do anything else, read our Quick 'Getting started' guide (PDF).

I'm in a rush and need to access my email quickly!

If you've not got it completely working yet and don't yet have time to go through the process, you can log into the Outlook Web App to read and send your email or use your calendar. However, please note that this is a temporary measure, as we plan to set up 2-factor authentication on Outlook Web App at some point in the future.

I am using a key fob and can't log in to my PC when I put the code in after my password

Please ensure you're putting the Duo code in on the GlobalProtect window which pops up after you login, and not the regular login screen.

I'm not getting the 2nd login window on my computer - how do I login?

From today, University managed computers should get a popup "GlobalProtect" window which will ask you to enter your password. If you're not getting this window, this is likely to be one of two reasons:

  1. You are not using a University managed computer and GlobalProtect is not installed.
  2. You are using a University managed computer and GlobalProtect is not yet enabled.

In either case, you can start at Step 2 on the 'Getting started' page or skip ahead to 'How to enable GlobalProtect manually' if you know GlobalProtect is installed.

I'd like more help
