Dr Sheena Kalayil, Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and a member of the judging panel, said:
“Our students once again showed the breadth of creativity in our School, as evidenced by the high quality of all our entrants. We chose four winners, which was no easy task - and congratulate these students on the power, eloquence beauty of their writing.”
Sheena’s fellow judge, Dr Ingrid Hanson, added:
“It was a pleasure to be part of the judging process for this award and to read the varied, powerful and moving texts – fiction, non-fiction and poetry - that came in as part of the competition, communicating a rich range of experiences, emotions, relationships, snapshots of history, politics, aspirations, ideas and viewpoints in the context of Black History Month. The winners made particularly strong use of their chosen literary form.”
