LEAP offers University staff the opportunity to study a language course for a reduced fee.
LEAP (Language Experience for All Programme) is part of the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures and offers University staff the opportunity to study a language course for a reduced fee.
LEAP offers 14 languages at various levels. All courses start from absolute beginner levels and some language courses reach advanced levels.
Most courses are offered for a full academic year with three contact hours per week. British Sign Language and some introductory courses are taught over one semester only. The courses aim to develop learners' language competence and cultural knowledge relevant to various aspects of these languages.
Whether for your professional career or personal use, learning a new language provides access to diverse knowledge sources and equips you with a unique blend of experience and transferable skills.
As languages facilitate cross-cultural communication and understanding, learning them fosters critical thinking, empathy, and adaptability. It enriches lives, bridges gaps between communities, and fosters a more inclusive and cohesive world.
Dr. Orieb Masadeh-Tate, Director of LEAP, said: "Learning a new language gives you a fresh lens through which you can see a new world."
