Enhancing Trusted Research awareness

18 Feb 2025

Roundtable exercises focusing on research security – supported by several UK government departments – foster awareness across the University

Our Regulatory Compliance Team – supported by representatives from several government departments – facilitated three roundtable exercises focusing on research security and Trusted Research Principles.

The events – at the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC), the Royce Institute and a cross-faculty event including MIB and FBMH members – brought together 30-40 participants from various roles, including students, technicians, researchers, senior leaders and PS colleagues.

The sessions focused on 3-4 scenarios focusing on the research taking place in these areas.

Feedback from the participants showed a significant increase in awareness and understanding of these topics, with many expressing a desire for longer discussions.

In addition to a reference document summarizing the key points from the sessions, the attendees received certificates of attendance to recognise their engagement in this essential training.

Head of Research Security and Compliance, Dr Irene Barinaga-Rementeria Ramirez said: “The delegates’ positive response has encouraged other colleagues in the HE sector to pursue similar initiatives, highlighting the value of fostering awareness of trusted research across the University.

“This was a significant step forward in enhancing the culture of research security here at Manchester.”
