Our Future – feeding ideas upwards

02 Jan 2019

Over 700 ideas generated by 4,000 colleagues now online – action from Staff Survey 2017

The University of Manchester

Our Future has seen over 700 ideas generated by 4,000 colleagues – a truly amazing example of our staff feeding their views upwards to our senior leaders.

The initiative to encourage colleagues, students, alumni and external stakeholders to think about what the future holds for our University and share their ideas about the kind of institution we want to be has enjoyed a huge response.

And it reflects the response to our Staff Survey in 2017, in which colleagues asked for more opportunities to feed their views and ideas upwards and for senior leaders to listen and respond to their input.

Staff Survey 2017 saw the biggest ever response rate – 72% based on the 10,584 staff asked to participate.

The results revealed that the University had improved in important areas such as managerial support, PDR objectives and zero tolerance to bullying and harassment.  However, there was still work to do in significant areas intrinsically related to staff morale.

Our Future – helping to determine the University’s new vision and strategic plan –is a key way to feed views to senior leaders and now all your ideas are online:

What happens next?

Our Senior Leadership Team is now working with the breadth of ideas to support the development of the vision, which the Board of Governors will sign off in 2019.  Your ideas will also help drive thinking about how we achieve our vision, with the creation of our next University strategic plan.   You will have further opportunity to be involved in thinking about the how we achieve our vision after the winter vacation and progress will be shared with you as this process continues.

Our next Staff Survey, giving you the chance to feedback about your experience of working here, launches in March 2019.
