Manchester Marathon disruption on campus

17 Apr 2025

As you may be aware, this year’s adidas Manchester Marathon is taking place on Sunday, 27 April and will be finishing outside Whitworth Hall, with over 32,000 marathon participants and 50,000 spectators expected to pass through Oxford Road on that day.

As a result, there will be some disruption on campus that weekend, including:

  • Road closures in the area from Saturday, 26 April. A full list of road closure times can be found on the marathon website (alongside an interactive map).
  • Inaccessibility of car parks: both Booth Street West and Cecil Street will be closed on Sunday, 27 April.
  • Noise disruption due to the numbers of participants and spectators.
  • Booth Street East building will be blocked off and completely inaccessible.

If you are planning to come into campus to work this weekend, please keep these factors in mind. If you are affected by the road closures, remember to check local bus routes for diversions. Similarly, if you are travelling in by foot, allow for extra time due to the crowds.

If you usually park in Booth Street West or Cecil Street and are scheduled to be in work on this weekend, please contact the Car Park Office on carparking@manchester.ac.uk or call in to G.002 Beyer Building to receive access to another university car park that weekend.
