Health and safety update
02 Apr 2025
It's important to stay informed about the latest health and safety guidelines to ensure a safe and productive environment for everyone. Below are some key updates and reminders for all colleagues.

Organising fieldwork? Think about First Aid provision
If you’re planning fieldwork or fieldtrips, it's crucial to ensure the safety of all participants and to be aware of our information on First Aid. If your risk assessment identifies the need for First Aiders, make sure their qualifications are valid for the entire duration of the trip. Here are some key training courses to consider:
- THS87 - First Aid at Work Certificate
- THS88 - First Aid at Work Requalification (for those needing to requalify for THS87)
- THS119 - Emergency First Aid at Work
Check Insurance
Before heading out on university business, double-check the details of the University’s travel insurance policy. If your travel involves working at another organisation, such as during a placement or research collaboration, ensure your host organisation has adequate insurance to cover your work. For more information, refer to the Insurance FAQs.
Planning an event, including outreach?
When planning events, especially those involving external partners or members of the public, comprehensive risk assessments are essential. Additionally, safeguarding measures must be in place for work experience and events involving under 18s. Consider the suitability of activities for the participants’ age, experience, and competency level. For detailed guidelines, refer to the University Safeguarding Policy and on Work Experience Placements for under 18s.
By following these guidelines, you can help ensure a safe and successful experience for everyone involved. Stay informed, stay prepared, and make safety a priority.
