Manchester Gold is our well-established mentoring scheme for all colleagues led by the Talent Development Team. It matches mentees and mentors at all grades, Academic or Professional Services, across the University to support staff development and share experience.

Who’s it for?

Manchester Gold is open for ALL colleagues at any point in their career and on any type of contract.

It has proved beneficial to colleagues from all areas of the University and all types of roles including Professional Services, Technical, Academic – both teaching and/or research.

Sonal Patel, Director of Talent Development said: ‘We’re delighted to launch Manchester Gold, our renowned mentor programme this Spring. Whether you’re looking for guidance in your career or personal development or are able to share your experiences to support others, Manchester Gold is a great opportunity for colleagues at all levels, in both Academic and Professional Services roles. I encourage everyone, at any stage of their career to get involved and be part of a culture that shares and learns through our rich diversity of knowledge and experiences.’

How does it work?

Relationships commence from May until February 2026 and arrangements are managed by the Mentee & Mentor. Meetings tend to be around one hour, every one to two months.

Enhance Your Impact: Become a Mentor This Year

We are actively seeking to increase Mentor applications this year to ensure we can continue providing meaningful support to all of our Mentees. If you have not yet had the opportunity to serve as a Mentor, we strongly encourage you to apply—our programme is open to all, and we welcome applications from everyone.

To support prospective Mentors, we will be hosting dedicated information sessions throughout the application period. These sessions will provide a comprehensive overview of the role, expectations, and benefits, as well as an opportunity to address any questions you may have.
