Your Voice Matters – Welcoming new colleagues
26 Mar 2025
Improving new colleagues’ experiences through welcome events, surveys and clearer guidance
Rachael McGraw, Head of Colleague Experience, reflects on new and improved initiatives to help new starters settle into life at the University.
Feedback from new colleague experience surveys, which launched in 2024, led to the refresh of Welcome Events for new colleagues to learn about the University, services and benefits available to them.
Rachael discusses other new initiatives such as campus tours to introduce new starters to the University campus and Manchester as a whole.
We also introduced a Welcome Guide which is sent to all colleagues before their first day, as well as a a leaflet for new starters with key contacts, benefits and resources to help with the initial onboarding process.
New guidelines for managers have been produced based on feedback from the joiners survey that only two thirds of respondents said they received an induction with their manager.
