Pay award for all colleagues from 1 March
24 Feb 2025
The second element of the 2024/25 pay award will be reflected in all colleagues’ March pay
Each year UCEA, the Universities and Colleges Employer Association, which oversees pay for the university sector, enters pay negotiations with the higher education trade unions (TU’s) to agree on the pay award for that year.
Following the conclusion of pay negotiations in September 2024, for the 2024-25 pay award, colleagues received a £900 (pro rata if part-time) pay uplift that came into effect in August 2024 and was paid in September 2024 noting any arrears.
All colleagues will also receive a second uplift that will be paid from 1 March 2025 and be reflected in your March pay – whether you’re paid in the middle or at the end of the month.
Your percentage increase will be dependent on your spinal point on the JNCHES pay spine. The two elements of the pay award are set out in the table below.
The JNCHES pay spine has been updated to reflect these changes.
Do I need to do anything?
No, you do not need to do anything, and the change will be applied from Saturday, 1 March and be reflected in your March pay.
If you have any questions, please contact People-od.PeopleServices@manchester.ac.uk.
I’m a line manager, is there anything I need to do?
If you are a manager, please ensure that you use the updated pay scales when completing any future employee change requests or recruitment.
Real Living Wage
We have been accredited by the Living Wage Foundation since 2019.
In October 2024 the Living Wage Foundation raised the Real Living Wage to £12.60, to be put into effect by all accredited employers by May 2025.
This second element of the pay award ensures that all colleagues will be paid above the new rate and demonstrates our continued commitment to offer the Real Living Wage.
