20 Feb 2025
Following a rigorous selection process, Professor Khalid Nadvi has been appointed as Vice-Dean and Head of the School of Environment, Education and Development (SEED).

Khalid, who is Professor of International Development at the Global Development Institute (GDI), will take up the Head of School role on 1 August 2025. He will take over from interim Head of School, Professor Juup Stelma.
Khalid has previously held positions as Managing Director of the GDI and Director of Research in SEED.
Professor Fiona Devine, Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, said: “I am delighted that Khalid been appointed as the new Head of SEED.
“He is an outstanding scholar who has also taken on a number of leadership roles in the School. I know his experience and skills will benefit the School greatly and, with the School Leadership Team and colleagues, he will build on SEED’s impressive success and performance. I am also greatly looking forward to him joining the Faculty Leadership Team and making an important impact at this level.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Professor Juup Stelma for his valuable contribution as interim Head of School and I look forward to continuing to work with him for the rest of the academic year.”
Khalid said: “I am thrilled and honoured to be appointed as SEED’s next Head of School, building on the fantastic leadership provided earlier by Martin Evans and now Juup Stelma.
“SEED has a lot to be proud of, across all our five departments. Our performances on teaching, research, impact and social responsibility are stellar, and that is thanks to all the work and effort put in by all our colleagues, both academic and professional staff. A particular hallmark of SEED is its collegiality and the friendly and supportive environment it provides for staff and students, undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students.
“I look forward to working with Fiona and the Faculty and School Leadership Teams, as well as with our President, Duncan Ivison, and the University Executive team, in making the School even stronger. Most importantly, I look forward to working collaboratively with all my exceptional colleagues within SEED.”
