Social Responsibility and Civic Engagement - An Introduction to Better Health

14 Feb 2025

Book now: Better Health online session on Wednesday, 26 February.

Researcher in a Lab

As part of our series of social responsibility and civic engagement sessions for staff we are now open for bookings for our Better Health online session at 12pm on Wednesday, 26 February.

Chaired by Dr Julian Skyrme, Executive Director of Social Responsibility and Civic Engagement, participants will have the opportunity to hear directly from three different people who will offer up pioneering examples of the University’s commitment to better health. Colleagues will then have an opportunity to ask follow-up questions.

Speakers include:

  • Dr Rachel Lindley, Co-Academic Lead for Public Engagement, who will speak about the positive symbiotic engagement that service learning offers from which our students and communities equally benefit.
  • Natalie Gardiner, Vice-Dean for Social Responsibility in FBMH and Hawys Williams, Social Responsibility and Public Engagement Manager in FBMH, who will speak about why involving patients and the public in our research and teaching is important to us.
  • Keith Brennan, Vice Dean Internationalisation in FBMH, who will speak about global health programmes focusing on projects taking place in Kenya.

Who should attend?

These sessions are aimed at all staff who are interested in how our University is making a positive difference to society and the environment through our Social Responsibility and Civic Engagement Plan. The content will be useful to anyone who wishes to find out more about the impact of our social responsibility activities, key people behind its delivery and our plans for the future.

Chaired by senior leaders, the session will be delivered by managers and beneficiaries of our programmes to provide real-life examples of our impact. There will be time for Q&As and feedback. The session will last approximately 45 minutes.

Future session for 2024/25 academic year:
