University of Manchester publishes Access and Student Success Impact Report 2023/24
14 Feb 2025
The University of Manchester is proud to release the latest Access and Student Success Impact Report, celebrating the strides we have made in making education more accessible and supporting students from under-represented backgrounds.

2024 has been a landmark year for access and success at the University, with over 50,000 young people engaged in our programmes and the publication of our latest Access and Participation Plan. This year has provided an opportunity to reflect on our achievements while setting ambitious objectives for the future.
Supporting students in school and college
In 2023/24, we worked with 50,566 students across 1,195 schools and colleges, expanding our reach and impact:
- New Initiatives: We launched Manchester Young Academics and mA*ths Online, a collaboration with Mathematics in Education and Industry (MEI) and Imperial College London, supporting talented students in mathematics.
- Offer Holder Mentoring: In the Faculty of Science and Engineering, 296 prospective undergraduate students benefited from mentoring to help them transition into university life.
Supporting our students at the University
Our commitment to student success extends beyond access, ensuring that students from all backgrounds thrive once they arrive at Manchester:
- Financial Support: Over £11 million was distributed to 5,900 students through the Manchester Bursary and Undergraduate Access Scholarship, providing crucial financial aid.
- Black Leadership Programme: As part of our Manchester 10/10 programme, we launched this initiative to foster leadership and professional development opportunities for Black students.
- Global Experiences: 37 students were funded to spend a week in one of seven cities worldwide through our Manchester Global Graduates programme, providing invaluable international exposure and networking opportunities.
Looking to the future
In addition to our impact over the past year, we have outlined six strategic objectives in our Access and Participation Plan, which will guide our efforts through 2028. These objectives reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that talented students—regardless of background—have the support they need to succeed at Manchester and beyond.
