February is Payroll Giving Month – an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the benefits of supporting good causes by donating directly from your pay.

Purple Pounds is our official payroll giving scheme at The University of Manchester. As a colleague and part of our community, Purple Pounds is a fantastic way for you to support the causes you care about most.

You can support any UK registered charity or good cause with a donation through your pay. And the best part is, it’s completely tax-free.

Get started by choosing the cause that you’d like to support.

What are the benefits?

Purple Pounds is simple and tax effective. This is because your donation is made before tax is deducted from your pay. For example, if you donate £5, the take-home cost to most taxpayers is just £4. And if you’re a higher-rate taxpayer, you’ll save even more.
You’re in charge. It’s easy to set up, change, or cancel your donations yourself, at any time through your online account.
You can nominate more than one charity to benefit from your donations. Even if your chosen cause isn’t listed on the site, you can still support them by entering their registered charity number.
It’s one less thing for you to worry about. Since your monthly gifts are deducted from your pay, your giving is automatically taken care of – you don’t even see your gifts leave your bank account.

Visit www.manchester.ac.uk/purplepounds to sign-up. You’ll need your staff ID number and National Insurance number to hand.
