Lab Projects for UGs and PGTs

Many undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate taught (PGT) students will soon be embarking on their lab-based projects. Academics are reminded to arrange sufficient supervision and ensure all students receive the appropriate health and safety (H&S) training in line your school or faculty. This is crucial to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.

Laser Pointers for Presentations

When using laser pointers for presentations, please ensure they are labelled as Class 1 or Class 2, comply with the EN 60825 standard, and carry a CE or UKCA mark. The label can be found on the laser pointer or in the accompanying datasheet.

Safety Tips for Laser Pointers:

  • Only keep the 'on' button depressed when pointing at the presentation.
  • Never look directly at the laser.
  • Never point at reflective surfaces.

Additionally, please liaise with the local Laser Safety Advisor for all laser equipment. The Laser Advisors Contact List is available for reference.

Essential Health, Safety, and Compliance Training

A reminder to all staff to complete the essential training courses by Friday, 28 February 2025. A number of these courses are designed to help you learn or refresh key information related to health, safety, and compliance.
