National Student Survey (NSS) 2025 launches
27 Jan 2025
The National Student Survey (NSS) 2025 is now open, offering final-year undergraduate students the opportunity to share their feedback on their time at Manchester.

Please join us in encouraging eligible students to participate.
Why the NSS matters
The NSS is one of the most important tools for gathering student feedback about their experience of studying and living at Manchester. The results are vital for:
- Improving the student experience: Feedback helps us make targeted improvements in areas such as teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, and learning resources.
- Enhancing our reputation: NSS results contribute to university league tables and help prospective students make informed decisions.
How you can help promote the NSS to students
Students respond best to encouragement from staff they know and trust. Whether you teach, advise, or support students, your engagement is critical to achieving a high response rate.
- Share the importance of the NSS with your students in lectures, seminars, or one-to-one meetings.
- Point students to the NSS website where they can complete the survey.
- Use the resources available on the Promoting the NSS pages on StaffNet for advice and promotional materials.
The survey results can only be published if at least 50% of eligible students respond. Last year, our response rate was 72.5%. This year, we aim to surpass 75% by promoting early participation and maintaining momentum throughout the survey period.
The NSS closes on 30 April, 2025.
Incentives for students
To thank students for their time, all participants can enter a prize draw to win one of 20 prizes, including:
- Graduation Day packages (gown hire, professional photography, and extra guest tickets)
- iPads
- Vouchers for Uber, Deliveroo, or Love2Shop
Additionally, for each completed survey, the University will donate £2, split equally between the following charitable causes selected by the Students’ Union:
- University of Manchester Cost of Living Support Fund: Supporting students facing financial hardship.
- Manchester Central Foodbank: Providing emergency food and support to local people in crisis.
- Barnabus: Helping people experiencing homelessness in Manchester rebuild their lives.
- Ladybarn Community Hub: Supporting local residents with a range of community services.
More information on the NSS
- Students can complete their NSS survey here.
- Ipsos will continue to contact students throughout the survey period to encourage them to complete their NSS. Once they have filled in their survey all contact from Ipsos will stop.
- This year, students who complete their NSS will be asked if they want to complete the Sexual Misconduct Survey (SMS). Students do not have to complete this for their NSS responses to count. Students have been signposted to this article for more information.
