The University of Manchester’s Purplewave is making its much-anticipated return, uniting our community for the 10K Great Manchester Run on Sunday, 18 May 2025. This flagship initiative from UoM Sport promotes connections through physical activity, shared experiences, and a spirit of fun. Whether you're a leisurely walker or a passionate runner, there’s a place for everyone in the Purplewave. 

Staff and students can take advantage of discounted tickets, available for just £20, making it even easier to join in. 

Free fundraising place  

Want to make an even bigger impact? As a Purplewave fundraiser, you can get a FREE 10K place by fundraising for a chosen university cause.  

This year, you can choose to support one of two amazing causes:  

Help find life-saving solutions to cancer 

By fundraising today, you can help scale up Manchester’s cancer research team of tomorrow. You’ll put more early career researchers in the lab – doing the science required to speed up progress, meaning we’ll get the answers we need faster. 

Support the students who need it most 

Over the past year, more than 1,000 students applied for donor-funded hardship grants – more than ever before. And there’s no doubt that demand will continue to be incredibly high throughout 2025. It’s so important that every Manchester student who needs help can receive it. By fundraising today, you can make sure The University of Manchester remains a place where the best and brightest can thrive – no matter their circumstances. 

There is a minimum fundraising target of £60.
