Weather notice: staying safe when travelling in icy weather

Temperatures in Manchester are expected to be freezing until Sunday, 12 January.

A yellow weather warning have been issued by the Met Office for Manchester and the North West until after this weekend, so please take extra care when travelling in icy conditions.

In order to ensure safety, the Estates and Facilities Directorate will be gritting main paths and entrance areas on campus. However, please be aware that the local council do not grit pavements - only the main roads and cycle paths.

Tips for staying safe in icy conditions

The Met Office have issued useful advice for reducing your risk in icy conditions, which can be found on their website.

When travelling into campus, please:

  1. plan your route carefully, checking for any delays or road closures;
  2. ensure plenty of travel time;
  3. check your car before setting off;
  4. be cautious when on the road; and
  5. keep updated on local travel and weather advice.
