Race Terminology Workshop

07 Jan 2025

Sign up for Race Terminology Workshop on Monday, 3 February

Do you care about creating a more inclusive university? Would you like to contribute to an important conversation around the use of race-related language amongst our community?

If so, join our research study. We are working in partnership with the charity Nurturing Foundations.

As part of the research study "Understanding and Redefining Race Terminology," the  Nurturing Foundations is hosting focus groups to gather invaluable staff views on race terminology, its use and impact, and how we, as an institution, can communicate more inclusively and with a better understanding of representation.

As part of work aligned with our Race Equality Charter, we’d like to understand how colleagues and students identify with and relate to a variety of race terminology.

When

Monday, 3 February, 11-1pm

On campus (room to be communicated in confirmation email)

Refreshments provided

During the session, you will discuss:

  • How race terminology is used on campus.
  • Challenges or concerns about race-related language.
  • Ideas for improving inclusive communication.

Representatives from the Nurturing Foundations will facilitate the session and questions will focus on your experiences and opinions on race, language, and identity. Your input will shape future discussions and university policies.

Please note that for confidentiality purposes, this session will take place in-person only.  The Nurturing Foundations have requested the number of participants to be capped at 20 with each participant receiving a £10 Amazon Gift Voucher.  Please register your interest by Wednesday, 22 January for catering purposes.
