Essential Training Courses Launching This December
03 Dec 2024
All colleagues to complete our new and updated Essential Training Courses by Friday, 28 February.
I’m pleased to announce the launch of our new Essential Courses program starting this December.
To ensure that we continue to create a safe, welcoming, and legally compliant environment, all colleagues will be required to complete eight vital training modules by Friday, 28 February. This is a chance for all of us to contribute to our collective safety and success.
Why is this important?
A recent audit of our training records found considerable gaps in our completion rates across the University, for both new starters and refresher courses. This highlights a key risk in meeting our legal obligations as well as our collective commitment to meet the high standards expected of an institution such as ours.
These courses are our shared responsibility as leaders, line managers, peers, and individuals, and these courses are a necessary part of our roles.
What's included?
From today, Tuesday, 3 December, you'll have access to a comprehensive suite of training on Blackboard, including:
- Health & Safety (15 mins)
- Fire Awareness for All (5 mins)
- Office Safety at UoM (30 mins)
- Data Protection & Cyber Security (30 mins)
- Diversity in the Workplace (45 mins)
- Unconscious Bias (45 mins)
- Disability Equity (30 mins)
- Sexual Harassment (20 mins)
Who needs to complete the training?
Everyone. Even if you've completed similar training before, many of our courses have now been updated, so it's crucial to complete the new course and refresh your knowledge.
For those who joined after 1 August 2024, your previous completions will be updated in our records, so you may have fewer courses to complete.
How to access the training?
Simply head to the Essential Training Courses section on Blackboard.
Deadline
You will have until Friday, 28 February 2025 to complete all modules so you can do the courses at a pace that suits you.

Let's make this a priority please and get our completion rates up.
Best wishes,
