Important update on academic promotions criteria for 2024/25

We are pleased to announce that the academic promotions criteria have been revised and refreshed to provide clearer ways for colleagues to present their application.

The criteria and guidance for all of the current domains have been revised and refreshed. New criteria and guidance have been developed for colleagues who wish to apply for promotion on a Teaching and Scholarship track. These changes will be implemented for the 2024/2025 academic promotions round in order to allow colleagues to benefit by presenting their application against these revised criteria.  

This important work, alongside guidelines which clarify the roles and responsibilities of School and Faculty promotions committees, has been shaped following feedback from a wide range of colleagues across the University, including invaluable input from the UCU and Senate.  

We understand that many colleagues are starting to prepare their applications, and so we have made the criteria available on the University’s Academic and Research Staff Promotions webpages now ahead of the associated guidance being published later in October (expected w/c 21 October). We recommend that colleagues carefully consult the guidance when it becomes available.
