For all colleagues - have your say on the impact of menstrual health and peri/menopause within the workplace
The University is collaborating with the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Caucus (EDICa), a three-year research project aimed at supporting employers to embed EDI practices within the research and innovation sector.
As part of this collaboration, EDICa are running an anonymous survey for colleagues at the University to complete. The survey aims to assess how the University is currently doing in terms of menstrual health and peri/menopause support. It includes questions on experiences of managing periods, problematic menstruation, and peri/menopause in the workplace
Importantly the survey will help inform the content of a University of Manchester ‘Menstrual Health and Menopause Support at Work Toolkit’. The " Toolkit " aims to provide colleagues and managers with key information about menstrual health, menstrual health conditions, stages of menopause, menopausal symptoms and promote understanding about the impact of menstrual health and menopause within the workplace.
Rachel Cowen, Academic Lead for Gender and Sexual Orientation Equality, said: 'It's important that we hear from as many people as possible through this research. Work experiences and careers should not be negatively impacted by menstrual health and menopause. The research findings will help us put the right support in place to promote wellbeing and inclusivity across our campus and culture.'
Who is the survey for?
The survey is open to all colleagues. Menstrual health is everyone’s concern, regardless of gender or experience, whether you have first-hand personal experience or manage people facing challenges in this area. By completing this survey, you will share your voice to help our University understand what support will best help all our colleagues and have a positive impact on making working lives better.
Is the survey anonymous?
Yes. You are not required to provide your name when completing the survey. You will be asked to complete some demographic questions, so we can best understand how experiences differ among our colleagues. There is an option to provide contact details you wish to take part in focus groups that the EDICa Caucus will be running after the survey is complete.
How long will it take to complete?
The survey should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete. All submissions are completely anonymous and confidential.
The research has been granted full ethical approval from the School of Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee at Heriot-Watt University.
How will the survey data be used?
All survey data will be securely stored by Heriot-Watt University. No data will be shared beyond the immediate research team unless it has been fully anonymised, raw data will not be shared with any third parties. For more information visit Heriot-Watt University’s Research Ethics Policy
