Free 147 bus route extended to and from Piccadilly Station
03 Jun 2024
From Monday, 3 June 2024, free travel on the 147 bus route will be extended to allow colleagues and students travel to and from stops at Piccadilly Station, improving the convenience for rail commuters of getting to Oxford Road without having to pay any additional fare.
Colleagues and students from the University will be able to travel free between the Station and the North and South Campus on the Magic Bus 147 after showing your University ID to the driver.
The full area of free travel can be found on the Service 147 zone map; however, if you are travelling outside the campus area, you will need to pay for your journey or hold a valid ticket.
This extension forms part of the University’s commitment in the ‘Our Sustainable Future’ strategy to reduce congestion, minimise emissions from travel, and work with our stakeholders and partners to continue reducing our environmental impact. Free travel on the 147 bus is part of a package of measures to support lower-carbon travel, including:
- Interest free loans to purchase public transport season tickets;
- A Cycle to Work scheme alongside cycle parking and showering facilities across campus; and
- Free e-Bike hire for colleagues.
Further information on our sustainability strategy
We adopted our zero-carbon target by 2038 in 2019, and achievement of this goal is being supported by the Directorate of Estates and Facilities. More sustainable travel forms just one part of our overall plan to lower emissions. Recently, we announced a landmark Corporate Power Purchase Agreement from a 104,000 panel solar farm, which will provide up to 65% of our electricity and save 12,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
