UCU re-ballot results

05 Apr 2023

Following a re-ballot of the University and College Union’s (UCU) members, UCU has secured an extension of its mandate for industrial action until September 2023

UCU re-ballot results

The University and College Union (UCU) re-balloted its members earlier this month on a proposed continuation of industrial action, as its current mandate was due to end on 20 April 2023. This action is regarding the ongoing dispute in relation to pay, pensions, and working conditions and follows the recent strike action by UCU members earlier this year.

The results of the re-ballot were:

  • In the pay and working condition ballot, 85.6% voted yes for strike action and the turnout was 56.4%.
  • In the pension ballot, 89% voted yes for strike action and the turnout was 58.4%.

Therefore, UCU has secured an extension of its mandate to take industrial action until September 2023.

Following a meeting of the UCU’s Higher Education Committee (HEC) on Thursday 30 March, UCU will start a further consultation today with members on current pay and non-pay proposals.

At this stage, we do not know what further industrial action UCU plans to take, but we will update you as soon as possible once we have more information.

As always, we will do everything we can to minimise any impact of strike action or action short of strike on our students and others in our community.
