08 Dec 2022
Professor April McMahon, Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and Students has been appointed as deputy chair (academic) of the panel for the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023
The panel brings together an impressive breadth and depth of independent academic expertise, and experience in representing students, from all parts of the higher education sector.
TEF is a national government run exercise which evaluates the quality of the undergraduate student experience with the aim of incentivising enhancements and to better inform students’ choices about what and where to study.
The panel's job will be to decide the ratings for providers that are due to take part in the TEF by making submissions in January 2023. Alongside the membership, the Office for Students (OfS) have also published more information about the procedures the panel will follow.
Commenting on her appointment Professor McMahon said, “It is a great privilege to be selected as deputy chair of the TEF panel. There is a lot of hard work ahead, but this is our opportunity to showcase some of the fantastic successes in student experience and outcomes right across the sector.”
Professor McMahon, who joined our University in 2019, has previous panel experience for TEF 2017, and chaired the Humanities sub-panel for both Subject Level TEF Pilots.
Following the last TEF assessment, our University was awarded silver status.
