President and Vice-Chancellor meets staff and students on campus visit

Professor Nancy Rothwell thanked staff for their hard work and commitment to safely welcome students to our campus
Today (Friday, 2 October) Nancy and Simon Merrywest, Director for the Student Experience, met staff who have been helping with Welcome Week, in a marquee on Gilbert Square. Nancy heard from different teams from across our campus and thanked them for their help during these challenging times.
Nancy and Simon then visited the Alan Gilbert Learning Commons, the Students’ Union and the Academy to see the new safety precautions put in place. Although quiet, Nancy was impressed by the changes made, including a new socially-distanced socialising space in the Academy.
Simon Merrywest said: “I have been really struck by a fantastic sense of people coming together from across the University to make our welcome this year as warm as it possibly can be
“Everyone's put in long hours in and worked incredibly hard. Although they may be feeling uncertain themselves, they’re still entirely focused on supporting our students.”
Talking about her visit Nancy said: “I wanted to see for myself what the campus looks like. Lots of people are doing a fantastic job to support and welcome the students under these very difficult circumstances.
“I know a lot of people are doing everything they can to support students, reassure them and make sure they get the best possible experience during this pandemic, and I wanted to personally thank them for their efforts.”
