Update on 147 bus service
19 Aug 2019
Following staff feedback and negotiations with Stagecoach, the operator of the 147 inter-site bus service, all bus stops along Oxford Road connecting north and south campus will again be part of the free service for staff and students
Bus stops at the Aquatics Centre, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and Charles Street will re-open within the free service from the Students’ Union to Sackville Street from 1 September to allow staff and students to use the inter-site bus more flexibly. All 147 bus stops are listed on the University’s interactive map, and will be updated to reflect the charging changes from the beginning of September.
Director of Estates and Facilities Diana Hampson said: “We are pleased to reach an agreement with Stagecoach to provide a service which meets the needs of the University community at an affordable cost.”
“Staff and students will continue to have to show their University ID to board the bus, but as we will no longer pay per journey, there is no expectation for individuals to use their personal travel cards if they have them.”
“We’d like to take the opportunity to thank users of the inter-site bus for your patience over this period of change, and I’m glad we’re able to resume all stops from September in time for Welcome Week.”
