Our Future: Next phase of development begins

The next phase in the development of our University’s new vision and strategic plans is well underway, with a member of the Senior Leadership Team leading on each of its seven themes. These themes are based on the feedback from the Our Future consultation, and the work that has continued into this year.

A range of initiatives that will form the key building blocks of the strategic plan and deliver our ambitions are now being considered. While not intended to be an exhaustive list of everything we do, the strategic plan will help us prioritise what is important in an increasingly volatile external environment, blending our current strengths and existing plans with new activities to shape our University’s direction in the next five years for our staff, students and alumni.

The themes and their leads are:

Theme Lead
Civic Engagement  James Thompson
Global Influence  Luke Georghiou
Innovation  Luke Georghiou
Our People, Our Values  Patrick Hackett
Research and Discovery  Colette Fagan
Social Responsibility  James Thompson
Teaching and Learning  Clive Agnew

Get involved

Engagement continues across the University to further progress on the development of our strategic plan, with recent examples including sessions with Presidential Fellows, new starters and leaders from across our academic areas, professional services and cultural institutions. The topic of Our Future will continue to feature on meeting agendas and events across the University, so please do continue to share your views.

Colleagues can also get involved in a number of other ways. For example, one of the subjects that came back strongly in the Our Future feedback was around how we do things: such as processes, decision-making, culture and the way we work, with values underpinning all of this feedback.

In response to this, Patrick Hackett, leading on the Our People, Our Values theme, has written a Viewpoint blog on uncovering our University’s values. All colleagues are encouraged to take the short survey to shape Our University’s values.

Colleagues can also hear more about Our Future developments at an SLT Open Meeting on 4 June where there will be the opportunity to ask questions. Register for the event with EventBrite.
