Using personal laptops for work

We have recently had a few queries about using your personal laptops for work at home.

Considering the recent cyber incident, whilst it is possible, we would recommend using the University provided one instead. 

The University managed laptops:

• Have a standard set of applications installed.
• Are encrypted for data protection.
• Are maintained in the background by IT Services – managed updates etc.
• Have additional packages offered via the Software Center.
• They are automatically set up for 2-factor authentication (VPN/Global Protect) and virus protection. 
• Are configured to work with all University systems.

If you want to use a personal device you will need to ensure it has been configured for virus protection, encryption etc. 

If you have any concerns about transporting laptops from home to work etc please speak to your line manager in the first instance.
