Confirming flexible working arrangements for teaching availability for 2025/26 timetable

07 Feb 2025

In preparation for setting the 2025/26 teaching timetable, the Directorate of People is conducting its annual review of formally approved Flexible Working Arrangements (FWAs) for academic and research staff with teaching responsibilities regarding their teaching availability.

Key information:

  • This review applies to academic staff in substantive posts with teaching, teaching and scholarship, or teaching and research contracts, as well as research staff with teaching duties (eg those on fellowship contracts).
  • The Directorate of People requires an up-to-date list of all FWAs concerning teaching availability by 5pm on Friday, 7 March 2025. This will allow them to cross-check and compile the data before sharing it with the Faculty Scheduling team ahead of the teaching availability assessment panels in April 2025.
  • Regarding teaching availability, if you have a formally approved new or updated FWA (eg part-time, compressed hours, annualised, or phased retirement), or if any previous arrangement is no longer required, please notify your Head of School/Division/Department or academic line manager as soon as possible.

Next steps

  • If applicable, ensure your Head of School/Division/Department or academic line manager is aware and approves any changes to your FWA, in terms of your teaching availability as they will be responsible for confirming the accuracy of the submitted information by the Friday, 7 March deadline.
  • If no changes are submitted by the deadline, the Directorate of People will take the view there are no updates to your current FWA details.

This process is being communicated directly to colleagues. Your timely response is crucial to ensure accurate teaching availability data is provided for the upcoming academic year.

Thank you for your cooperation.
