New Directors of School Operations for SoSS and SEED
18 Oct 2024
A message from Hannah Rundle, Faculty of Humanities Executive Director of Faculty Operations
Dear all,
I would like to update you on some changes in our Directors of School Operations (DoSO) roles in the Faculty.
With the upcoming retirement of Alison Wilson in the new year, we have appointed Darien Rozentals to take over as DoSO for the School of Social Sciences (SoSS).
We have also taken the opportunity to review the current DoSO assignments across the Faculties. As a result, Kay Hodgson will be moving from her role in the School of Environment, Education and Development (SEED) to become DoSO in the School of Engineering (SoE). David Pattwell will be joining Humanities from the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health (FBMH) as the new DoSO for SEED.
Darien will be moving from her current and substantive role as Head of Faculty Research and Business Engagement for FBMH, where she is also Deputy Director of Faculty Operations.
Darien has international experience in the higher education sector, having worked at different universities in Australia before moving to the UK to join the University of Manchester in 2008. Since joining the University, Darien has held positions in all three Faculties, leading large teams through complex and transformative change projects. This has included leading and overseeing the safe reopening of the campus following the Covid closure.
Darien will start in SoSS from January 2025 and there will be a period of handover for Alison and Darien during January and February.
David will be joining SEED from his current position as DoSO in the School of Medical Sciences (SMS).
David began his professional services career at Liverpool, where he also gained a PhD in Muscle Physiology. He became Head of Operations at the Institute of Veterinary Science at Liverpool before joining the University of Manchester in 2019. He saw the School of Medical Sciences (SMS) through a significant period of change and successfully ensured the School continued to function effectively through the Covid pandemic at a time when he was himself was still comparatively new to the University.
David will start a handover with Kay from January 2025 and Kay will remain in SEED until March 2025, when she will move to SoE.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Alison and Kay for their fantastic dedication and contribution to their Schools and to the Faculty, and to welcome Darien and David to Humanities.
Best wishes,
Hannah
