Humanities social responsibility and EDI end of year review
28 Jun 2024
A joint meeting of the Humanities social responsibility and equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) committees this week gave the chance for colleagues to reflect on the achievements of the past year and set out priorities for 2024/25.
On Tuesday 25 June Professor Dimitris Papadimitriou, Faculty Vice-Dean for Social Responsibility and Inclusion, chaired a joint meeting of the Humanities Social Responsibility and EDI committees.
He was joined by a number of senior SR and EDI colleagues including Professor Nalin Thakkar, Professor Rachel Cowen, Professor Jackie Carter and Dr Julian Skyrme, who congratulated the Faculty on all of its efforts and successes, as well as ambitious plans for the future.
The joint meeting was a chance for academic and PS colleagues working in these areas to look back at the collective achievements of the past year and to set out priorities as a Faculty for the next academic year.
Successes included the development and launch of the first Faculty strategy for Environmental Sustainability (ES); a high level of engagement and impact through the bicentenary celebrations and the Making a Difference awards; implementation of the Academic Returners scheme; and standardisation of EDI leadership roles.
Priorities for next year include Athena Swan Silver applications for both AMBS and SoSS; further supporting colleagues applying for academic promotions; continuing discussions on service learning in all four Schools; and a focus on biodiversity and valuing nature as part of the ES strategy.
