Find out more about the Teaching Excellence Framework segment
20 Feb 2024
The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) segment is focused on improving the student experience by embedding a framework for teaching excellence across the Faculty.
In 2023, the University was rated Silver overall, Gold for Student Outcomes, and Silver for Student Experience.
Co-led by Charles Walkden (Reader in Pure Mathematics and Associate Dean for TEF) and Fiona Lynch (Faculty Strategic Planning and Change Manager), the segment leadership team also consists of Akilu Yunusa-Kaltungo and Rob Appleby (Schools Heads of Education) and Carly Peesapati and Steve Olivier (School Heads of Teaching, Learning and Student Experience).
In preparation for TEF 2027, a five year plan has been created which will see the segment leadership team working in collaboration with colleagues across the University and students to further amplify our successes whilst strengthening the areas that required improvement. Activity will include:
- Defining ‘Educational Gain’ and identifying and highlighting initiatives and activities to support this
- Identifying, recording and celebrating good practice throughout our curricula
- Ensuring that the benefits of collaborating and co-creating with our students are embedded
- across all TLSE activities
- Exploring a University-wide solution to compare TLSE metrics and inform programme delivery, TEF and the Access and Participation Plan
- Developing a cross-cutting strategy with Social Responsibility, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility to optimise progression and success for all students in a fair way
The outputs of the strategy are as follows:
- Achieve TEF gold status in 2027
- Embed recording and collation of data towards TEF submission
- Students benefit from educational gain
- Help to identify areas and activities that can support improvements in pedagogy and student experience
