Find out more about the Student Experience and Graduate Outcomes segment
14 Feb 2024
The Student Experience and Graduate Outcomes (SEGO) segment works with colleagues and student partners to provide the best possible experience for our students.
Associate Deans for SEGO, Emily Cooksey (Senior Lecturer of Chemical Engineering) and Jo Cartwright (Reader in Fashion Marketing and Branding) lead this segment along with Susan Ryles (Faculty Student Service Support and Development Manager). The segment leadership team also consists of Akilu Yunusa-Kaltungo and Rob Appleby (School Heads of Education), Carly Peesapati and Steve Olivier (School Heads of Teaching, Learning and Student Experience) and Rachael Jordan and Emily Sagüés (School Student Service Support and Development Managers).
The SEGO five-year strategy has several priority areas that will be delivered by the leadership team in collaboration with colleagues and students. Priorities includes:
- Eliminating awarding gaps between underrepresented student groups with plans in place to deliver this, based on the findings from numerous student focus groups. For example, SEGO has been working with ChangeMakers Ltd to better understand the experience of our black heritage students.
- Closing gaps in graduate outcomes through the development of better data and focused interventions in partnership with employability leads and the Careers Service.
- Amplifying the student voice and enacting continuous improvement through feedback mechanisms and closing the feedback loop via the Students' Union and Staff Student Liaison Committees.
- Developing belonging and community in FSE. Initiatives to support this have already begun including the launch of the Student Experience Action Fund.
- Supporting students in their understanding of their own mental and physical health. We aim to raise awareness of the support available across the University for staff and students including improved quality of signposting through Academic Advisors and utilising Teaching College communications.
