Faculty success at the CIOB North West Student Challenge
29 Nov 2023
On Wednesday 8 November, seven students from the Faculty’s MSc Construction Project Management programme took part in the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Student Challenge
Accompanied by Senior Lecturer, Richard Kirkham, two teams were involved in a series of technical challenges associated with circular economy requirements for a real-life construction project located adjacent to the Etihad stadium in Manchester.
Both teams performed extremely well, working under considerable time pressure to deliver their portfolio of work and presentations. One of the students won the award for Best Individual; this is the third consecutive year that a University of Manchester student has won this award and one of the two teams entered by the Faculty was awarded the Bronze medal position overall.
Speaking of this achievement, Callum Kid, Head of the Department of Engineering Management said
“On behalf of the Department, I'd like to congratulate the students on yet another stellar performance at the CIOB event. Every year they do us proud and their continuing success is a great source of pride for us all. However, this all takes a tremendous amount of planning and supervision, so I would also like to thank colleagues within the Department for the time and effort they put into this, particularly Dr Richard Kirkham for supporting our students every year to engage in this event”.
