Upcoming name change to Engineering Building A

09 Jul 2024

Engineering Building A will officially be renamed "Nancy Rothwell Building" from Wednesday, 24 July

In recognition of Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell’s huge and sustained contributions to the University and her fourteen-year term as President and Vice-Chancellor Engineering Building A will soon be renamed the Nancy Rothwell Building.

When is this change taking place?

Engineering Building A will officially be renamed “Nancy Rothwell Building” from Wednesday, 24 July.

New external signage will be installed at the entrances of the building from Thursday, 11 July ahead of this formal change.

The other buildings within the Manchester Engineering Development Campus (MECD) estate - Engineering Building B, York Street Building, Oddfellows Hall and James Chadwick Building – will retain their existing names.

What changes will building users see?

Engineering Building A will retain its existing internal wayfinding signage and room numbering system, ensuring consistency with Engineering Building B and helping to avoid any confusion for staff and students less familiar with the space.

Central University maps and other external points of information (e.g. Google Maps) will be updated in due course and will retain reference to the building’s existing name e.g. ‘Nancy Rothwell Building (Engineering Building A)’.

Room locations across student timetables and Resource Booker listings will be changed to “Nancy Rothwell [Room Number]” to reflect this change.
