Temporary Rumford Street car parking access for external contractors

24 Apr 2023

Colleagues engaging with external contactors should familiarise themselves with new car parking and access arrangements fron Tuesday 2 May

From Tuesday 2 May, colleagues based in Engineering Building A & B will be able to request temporary car parking access for external contractors undertaking work inside the buildings.

Temporary car parking - location, access and timings

A limited number of temporary spaces will be available on Rumford Street, between Engineering Buildings A & B, which can be accessed by turning left off Booth Street East immediately before reaching the James Chadwick Building from the South of the building. You can find a ‘What 3 Words’ link to this entrance location here.

Upon arrival, contractors should use the intercom found at the service gate to notify York St Stores of their arrival and have the barriers raised. After completing their work, contractors should exit via the further barrier onto Grosvenor Street at the North end of the building (next to Oddfellows Hall) again using the intercom to have Stores colleagues raise the barrier.

Spaces can only be booked between Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm. Where access is required after Stores closes at 4:00pm, colleagues should arrange to collect a temporary swipe-card from York Street Building Stores in advance, in order to be able to raise the barrier via the swipe-card panel below the intercom and let the contractor exit. These cards should not be given out to contractors and it is the responsibility of University colleagues to return these to Stores the following working day.

How to submit a request

Requests should be sent to mecdstores@manchester.ac.uk with at least 24 hours notice. When submitting your request, please provide:

·       Named contact from the University;

·       Company name, vehicle registration and contact number of the driver from the external organisation;

·       Expected duration of the contractor’s stay, indicating whether access is required for am or pm only, or for the entire day.

Stores will aim to respond to your query within 24 hours, letting you know if your request has been accepted. Where requests are granted, your email confirmation should be shared with the contractor so that the driver is able to quote the details of the email response upon arrival.

Please note spaces are limited and available on a first come first served basis. Furthermore, these spaces are for external organisations only and cannot be used by staff or students. All requests for private car parking on campus should be sent to the Car Parking Office at carparking@manchester.ac.uk
