Open meeting: Preparing to move from Blackboard Learn to Canvas by Instructure

An open meeting will be held on Tuesday 19 March at 1pm.
In November, we announced that Canvas by Instructure is set to replace Blackboard Learn as the central learning environment (CLE) across The University of Manchester.
We immediately moved into the discovery phase of the project to work with the supplier in configuring the CLE to our needs and developing staff working groups to support these discussions.
Now in the implementation phase of our journey, we will work with the supplier to create a robust training programme. We will continue to engage students and colleagues through regular and informative open meetings and communications.
Open meeting
Our next planned open meeting will be held on Tuesday 19 March at 1pm. The panel, including colleagues from working groups across the University, will be joined by guest, Rich Wall (Senior Services Consultant, EMEA, Instructure), who will provide an overview of the new CLE. The meeting will be a great opportunity for colleagues to hear key updates and ask the panel any questions.

What are the planned next steps?
| February 2024 | Delivery of initial role specific training for key teams across the University. This will help us review aspects of implementation, design, delivery, support and associated change processes. |
| February – September 2024 | Set up and configuration of the system to determine standards we would like to implement. Engage with teams across the organisation to support and prepare areas for transitioning. |
| September 2024 | Work with MBA and Global Programmes, and Transnational Education (TNE) to ensure colleagues are trained and have access to Canvas by Instructure. The course content will be built ready to start using Canvas with their students from January 2025. |
| January 2025 | Training and access to the system will be provided to the wider University Teaching, Learning and Student Experience staff. |
| September 2025 | The University of Manchester will be fully migrated to Canvas by Instructure. |
