Student awards and successes from around the School.
Successful PhD Vivas
Congratulations to Mitra Kabir who successfully completed her thesis entitled “Prediction of Mammalian Essential Genes based on Sequence and Functional Features”. Mitra’s PhD was supervised by James Fildes and Andrew Doig.
Mitra is now a postdoctoral research associate in James Fildes’ group working on a project to identify kidney development genes. The project is funded by Kids Kidney Research and is co-supervised by Andrew Doig, Helen Stuart, and Adrian Woolf.
PhD Project Awards
Frankie Wignall has been awarded an NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (Musculoskeletal theme) funded PhD studentship, “Testing the efficacy of a mesenchymal stem cell-based therapy for the regeneration of the degenerate intervertebral disc: a novel therapy for low back pain.” Frankie will start his research in September 2017 and will be supervised by Professor Judith Hoyland and Dr Stephen Richardson.
Former Immunology student features in Equity and Merit Scholarship video
The Spring issue of The University of Manchester’s magazine features Ann Auma, who completed her MSc in Immunology in 2013 and was an awardee of the University’s Equity and Merit Scholarship scheme.
