SkinBiotherapeutics PLC successfully floated on London Stock Exchange

26 Apr 2017

A former University of Manchester spin out company, SkinBiotherapeutics PLC has been successfully listed on the Stock Exchange earlier this month after raising £4.5M.

The company was formed as a result of discoveries made by Dr Catherine O’Neill from the School of Biological Sciences and Professor Andrew McBain, School of Health Sciences, when working on a BBSRC–funded project looking at the potential of bacteria as treatments for skin in health and disease.

The project generated intellectual property (IP) and an exciting opportunity for new technology and applications. Funding from the University’s technology transfer company, UMIP, enabled several IP filings to be made and after raising further funding the spin out company was formed in April 2016.

In the 12 months since its inception, SkinBiotherapeutics PLC has gone from strength to strength over the past 12 months developing three application areas for its SkinBiotix® technology – a cosmetic, an anti-infective agent and an eczema therapy.

Dr Cath O’Neill, who is now CEO of the company, commented: “The flotation is a fantastic achievement for the company and will enable us to continue to develop our technology and allow us to begin human trials for our technology applications. I would like to thank my colleagues at the University and UMIP for all their support.”
