Update: Intermittent network connectivity issues

IT Services are aware of intermittent network connectivity problems caused by an issue in the region outside of our direct control.

Update 5: Tuesday 20 February, 8.27am

Following our messages yesterday, overnight the network connectivity incident has stabilised.  IT Services are available from off and on campus; however, you may continue to notice performance issues during stabilisation.

We continue to work closely with our partners, including JISC, to continue to resolve any outstanding issues as quickly as possible and are continuing to monitor the situation today. 

Prior advice about coming onto campus if you wish to access University systems is no longer necessary.

Update 4: Monday 19 February, 11.30pm

Earlier today (Monday 19 February), IT Services were made aware of network connectivity problems impacting several Universities, including our own.

We have now been made aware that the issues have been caused by a cyber incident impacting both ourselves and our network provider, as well as some other UK Universities. The incident is impacting the availability of IT Services from off campus.

We are working closely with our partners, including JISC to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and will continue to monitor the situation closely overnight.

Staff and students wishing to access University systems tomorrow, 20 February are advised to come onto campus where possible.

Update 3: Monday 19 February, 6.30pm

Network connectivity is stabilising and services are restoring, but this may take some time. We will continue to monitor the situation closely overnight. Next update: 9.30am.

Update 2: Monday 19 February, 5.30pm

Intermittent network connectivity issues are still being experienced. This is due to an issue that our network supplier – Jisc – is experiencing across the North West region.  We aim to provide a further update at 6.30pm.
