10,000 Actions now supports the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals

20 Aug 2019

We’ve aligned our sustainability initiative with the blueprint for a better and more sustainable future

10,000 Actions now supports the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals

In April, the University was ranked best in Europe, and third in the world, in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings. The rankings recognise universities across the world for their social and economic impact, and are based on the 17 United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. They include challenges such as climate change, economic inequality, innovation and sustainable consumption.

Our environmental sustainability programme, 10,000 Actions provides colleagues with the opportunity to make a positive impact on sustainability. The 10,000 Actions website has been updated so that each of the initiatives is aligned with a UN SDG, so you can now see more clearly how your actions can ultimately help to tackle the world’s greatest challenges. For example, the action ‘Cycle to work’ is aligned with three UN SDGs: Goal three - Good Health and Well-being, Goal 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities and Goal 13 - Climate Action.

  • The University is a proud signatory of the SDG Accord, which recognises the role education has in delivering the SDGs and signifies our commitment to delivering them
  • The University’s SDG report is an update of our progress in delivering these goals
