Julie is making a difference

Julie Devonald, Project Manager at the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre, is training as a counsellor

Julie has worked at the University since 1999, as Project Manager at the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre, and is very proud of the work they do.

The Centre has come a long way since its very humble beginnings behind Blackwell’s book shop and can now be found on the lower ground floor of the iconic Manchester Central Library building. 

The Centre's library is one of the most comprehensive in the country for race and ethnicity and its wonderful resources are now being read by a much wider and more diverse audience.

Working part time has allowed her to undertake an MA in counselling, here at the University, and she completed her second year earlier in 2014.

Julie said: "The course itself was life changing and I subsequently went on a placement at Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind. The work of the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre has made a real difference to many individuals and groups and my new counselling skills are not only making a difference to my colleagues at the Centre but also to my clients at Mind."
