Having your say

There are lots of ways you can share feedback or ask questions at our University. Your Voice Matters brings together just some of the ways you can have your say.

Our news feed demonstrates the way your ideas and suggestions are shaping the way we do things – both University-wide initiatives and local actions that can make a big difference.

Here are some of the different ways you can share your views or ask questions:

Colleague Experience Surveys

The colleague experience surveys provide an opportunity for us to listen to colleagues and act on feedback. They are sent out to new joiners, colleagues who are one year into their employment with us and colleagues who are leaving the University.

Pulse Surveys

From time to time we run pulse surveys on specific topics. In 2020 we asked colleagues about their experiences of working from home during the pandemic. The responses from the What Work’s survey led to a pilot of Hybrid Working and subsequent Hybrid Working Framework

Most recently, in April and May 2024, we carried out a short survey about wellbeing, to provide some baseline measures as we launched our Colleague Wellbeing Commitment.

Staff Networks

We have several staff networks at the University who provide feedback on relevant issues. Staff network groups meet regularly, and all have individual agendas and terms of reference. Issues raised by our staff networks groups are fed into ourEDI Committeevia theEDI Forum, both of which meet four times a year.

In addition, the Staff Wellbeing Champions Network is a group of colleagues who volunteer their time to support the wellbeing agenda across the University. They are a positive and proactive voice for wellbeing in the workplace, signpost employees to the University wellbeing services, promote national health and wellbeing days, promote and support University wellbeing campaigns and events and arrange locally based wellbeing initiatives to engage staff.

Manchester 2035 strategy

Over 5,500 colleagues, students, alumni, and community members took part in providing feedback and insight to co-create our Manchester 2035 strategy. In phase 1, that involved more than 1,500 bookings across 22 workshops and 2,869 online contributions.

Other ways to get your voice heard

There may be additional ways to have your say in the part of the University you belong to. These include things like virtual or physical suggestion boxes, open meetings, forums and focus groups.
