Exploring the effect of dynamic background on face emotion recognition
Description
Ethics ref 21073
We are seeking volunteers to participate in a study investigating emotional recognition. In
the eye-tracking experiment, background pictures will be presented first, followed by face
photos overlaid on the backgrounds on the screen.
Please note: Some people might find some of the background images upsetting as they
depict emotional scenes, particularly negative backgrounds that include themes such as
disaster, war, loneliness, quarrels. However, no nudity, blood, or graphic violence will be shown
As part of this study, you will be required to come to University of Manchester and use the
eye-tracking device to rate the facial emotion that you are recognising from the screen as
quickly as possible. Then, there will be three questionnaires investigating different aspects
of your personality. In each questionnaire, you will view a series of statements and asked
how much they relate to you. The whole session will last up to a maximum of 60 minutes.
You will receive the compensation for this study. If you want more information about this
experiment, please contact us and we will send you the participant information sheet.
