Eurolens Research – Are you a spectacle wearer? Would you like to try contact lenses for the first time in a relaxed, supported environment as part of a clinical study? (ref 734)

Description

Ethics ref: 21387

Study Design This study will investigate the role of a support coach in the success and satisfaction of new contact lens wearers. In addition to providing important clinical data that could help in the future management of new contact lens wearers, this study provides a good opportunity for volunteers to try contact lenses for the first time in a relaxed and supported environment. The study will involve standard eye examinations and vision tests (including the application of a standard optometric dye to eyes), photography of eyes (but not face), fitting of daily-disposable contact lens, contact lens handling and care training, short online meetings (for half of the volunteers only) and answering of questionnaires.

Inclusion Criteria Up to 110 volunteers (aged 18-40) who wear spectacles but have never worn contact lenses before are required. Further inclusion criteria apply and people with some eye or health problems, and women who are pregnant or breast-feeding, are unable to participate.

Duration and Appointments Volunteers will be asked to attend three clinic visits over a four- week period. Additionally, half of the volunteers will be asked to attend two further online meetings with their support coach. The clinic visits should last between 1 and 2 hours, whilst the online meetings will last up to 15 minutes.

Reimbursement: Volunteers completing this study will be reimbursed for their time. If a volunteer does not complete the study, a pro-rata reimbursement will be issued, based on the amount of time they have spent at the clinic. During the study, contact lenses will be provided free of charge. Travel costs or loss of earnings from your participation will be at volunteer’s own expense.
