Can you help us learn more about normal walking patterns and knee function?
Description
Ethics ref: 19496
We are looking for participants to take part in a research study to learn more about how the healthy knee moves and how individuals with no knee problems walk. The results will be compared to a group of patients taking part in an NHS study.
The findings of this study will teach us how people with no knee injuries move and walk so that we can better understand how injuries of the knee impact movement, and see if surgery on the knee improves knee movement and walking patterns enough to be considered normal again.
The project will be conducted at the University of Manchester.
If you express interest in the study, we will give you a participant information sheet which includes further information on the study. In brief, the assessments will include:
- A non-invasive test to see how much you can bend and straighten each knee.
- A non-invasive balance assessment, where you will be asked to stand on a pressure platform for up to 10 seconds.
- Non-invasive walking assessments, where you will be asked to walk over a 3m walkway barefoot and in your own shoes.
There will only be one research appointment, and it will take no longer than 30 minutes.
To take part in this study, you must be <60 years old on the day of assessment, consider yourself to be able bodied, and be able to speak, read and understand English. You will not be able to take part if you do not fulfil those criteria, and if you have any current musculoskeletal, neurological or sensory deficits, or hip, knee, ankle, or back pain.
